Please support the monthly Food Bank "Brown Bag"
On the first Sunday of the month, St. Ambrose parishioners show their generosity by “brown bagging” donations for the local food pantry. Please consider bringing a bag of non-perishable food or cleaning products. Just leave your bag in the vestibule as you arrive for Mass. Thank you!

R.C.I.A. Adapted for Children
Any child (baptized or not) that is eight years of age or older, has not received the sacraments of Reconciliation or Eucharist, and is interested in doing so may contact the parish office. Classes begin Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7:00 pm in the rectory.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The R.C.I.A. is a formation process for adults (18 years of age and older) who wish to become Catholic. Classes are held in the rectory or church hall for learning, faith sharing and fellowship. If you or someone you know may be interested in becoming Catholic and being involved in the R.C.I.A., please call the parish office. Classes begin Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7:00 pm in the rectory.

Anointing of the Sick
We will celebrate the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick on Saturday, Oct. 15, following the 5:00 pm Mass at St. Ambrose Church. At this time we will anoint with the Church's Holy Oil of the Infirm those of our parishes who are sick, chronically ill, infirmed by age or facing surgery.

Holy Year of Mercy (Dec. 8, 2015 - Nov. 20, 2016)
To celebrate the Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis, St. Ambrose will be collecting different items each month to be donated to those in need. During the month of Sept. we are collecting lunch items (peanut butter, jelly, crackers and snacks. As always you, the parishioners, have been extremely generous. Thank you so much especially for this month's donation of socks. God bless you!

PSR and Youth Ministry News
  • Youth Ministry Car Wash and Picnic Lunch - St. Ambrose/St. Michael Youth Ministry will be holding a fundraiser car wash with picnic lunch from 10:30 a.m. to ?? at St. Ambrose next Sunday, Sept. 25, weather permitting. Parishioners and non-parishioners are encouraged to bring every vehicle they own to the back parking lot where it will be lovingly cleaned by our Youth Ministry members. A picnic lunch will be provided. Donations will be gratefully accepted.
  • Help the Animals, Please! To celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi (Oct. 4), our PSR students are being asked to donate items to the APL in Ravenna. We will be collecting food, toys, paper products etc., during PSR, from Oct. 2 thru Oct. 30. We are asking you, the parish, to help us in this endeavor. Please bring your donations to the church vestibule during October. Thank you!
  • CCD and Youth Ministry Fees - The fee for CCD and Youth Ministry students will be $20.00 per child with a $30.00 family limit.
  • Parent Meeting: First Reconciliation Parents of children who are eligible to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation this year are reminded of their first session Sunday, Oct. 2, at 10:00 am at JAG Elem. School. These sessions are mandatory if your child is to receive the sacraments. The second session is Sunday, Oct. 16..

Altar & Rosary Society
The ladies of the Altar & Rosary Society will meet Sunday, Sept. 25, after the 11:15 am Mass in the church hall.

Choir News
Any adult interested in joining the choir, please call Tess at 330-325-2448. We could use some new voices since we are losing a couple as students head to college. Please come and join our musical family. Rehearsals on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in the church.

Blessing of Animals
In honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, we will have a Blessing of Animals Saturday, Oct. 1, at 11:00 am on the church grounds. You are invited to bring your pets and/or farm animals for this special blessing as we give thanks to God for the gift of these wonderful creatures.

First Step for Change
Catholic Charities' top priority is emergency assistance. The First Step program provides specific emergency assistance to women and families with children ages 0-3. Funds collected from First Step for Change are used to supplement case management services with emergency material assistance. Baby bottles will be in the vestibule next weekend, Oct. 1/2.

Annual Family Barbecue and Boutique
The Sisters of Notre Dame invite you to the Annual Barbecue/ Boutique on either Sunday, Sept. 25, from noon until 5:00 pm. Enjoy a barbecued chicken or ribs dinner! Select sisters' handmade items in the Boutique. Tickets are available at the door for $12.00/chicken and $15.00/ribs. Held at Notre Dame Educational Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon, Ohio.

Halloween Party
The Parish Social Life Committee will be hosting a Halloween party for the children of our parishes. The frightening good time is on Saturday, Oct. 29, in the Saint Ambrose hall immediately following the 5:00 Saturday vigil Mass. Please bring a bag of candy for each child you bring so we can fill up those treat bags.

Wedding Anniversary Celebration
The Office of Marriage and Family Life of the Diocese of Youngstown is sponsoring its second Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Celebration for the year 2016 on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 2:00 pm at St. John the Baptist Church, Canton. Diocesan couples who are observing their 25th, 40th, 50th, and over, wedding anniversaries in 2016 will be honored at this celebration. Contact the parish office if interested in attending.

Men Who Cook
Catholic Charities serving Portage and Stark counties will host its annual Stark County "Men Who Cook" event on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Walsh University. For more information, contact the agency's Canton office at 330-491-0896.

Rummage Sale/Bake Sale
It's that time of year again for the Altar & Rosary Society Rummage Sale\Bake Sale. The big sale will be Oct. 21/22. You may drop off your CLEAN and USABLE clothing and items to the garage at St. Ambrose.

Knights of Columbus News & Activities

K of C Council 11801 Fundraiser
The St. Ambrose Knights of Columbus is hosting a charity fundraiser through Cal's restaurant in Garrettsville that benefits the K of C/Charles Abraham Scholarship fund and Garrettsville-Nelson Food Shelf. Download and print a copy of the Cal's flyer, dine at Cal's and present the flyer on the listed dates. Flyers are also available in the church vestibule.

Labels for Education
This school year, the Knights of Columbus will again partner with James A. Garfield Local Schools to collect Labels for Education and Box Tops for Education. Please drop your Labels and Box Tops in the white "bucket" in the Church vestibule. Thank you.

K of C Meeting Times

Food Cupboard
The Windham Knights of Columbus has started an ongoing food drive through St. Michael’s Church. Canned vegetables, canned soup, cereal and peanut butter are the most needed items. However, any non-perishable items are fine. Please check the expiration date before donating. We would like to thank you for your generosity in advance.

Fall "Special" Bingo
St. Michael is having their Fall "Special" Bingo on Sunday, Oct. 16. Games start at 1:30 pm in the parish hall. Great Fun! Great Food! Great Games! Refreshments! Raffles! Baked Goods! Gift Table! Please come out and support St. Michael.

Ladies Guild
The Ladies Guild will hold their next meeting on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 10:00 a.m. in the parish hall. All ladies of the parish are welcome!

Praying the RosaryThe rosary is prayed every Saturday afternoon at 4:25 p.m. before the Saturday Vigil Mass. All are invited to come and pray this beautiful devotion to our Blessed Mother.
