Please support the monthly Food Bank "Brown Bag"
On the first Sunday of the month, St. Ambrose parishioners show their generosity by “brown bagging” donations for the local food pantry. Please consider bringing a bag of non-perishable food or cleaning products. Just leave your bag in the vestibule as you arrive for Mass. Thank you!

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The R.C.I.A. is a formation process for adults (18 years of age and older) who wish to become Catholic. Classes are held in the rectory or church hall for learning, faith sharing and fellowship. If you or someone you know may be interested in becoming Catholic and being involved in the R.C.I.A. classes, please call the rectory.

2017 Mass Book
The 2017 Mass book is open. There are still Mass openings for weekday Masses for 2016.

Mass time change for "winter" months
We return to our winter Mass schedule on Sept. 4. Masses on Sunday morning will be at 9:00 am (St. Michael) and 11:15 am (St. Ambrose). Saturday Vigil Mass remains at 5:00 pm (St. Ambrose).

Holy Year of Mercy (Dec. 8, 2015 - Nov. 20, 2016)
To celebrate the Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis, St. Ambrose will be collecting different items each month to be donated to those in need. During the month of August we are collecting children's socks. As always you, the parishioners, have been extremely generous. Thank you so much!

CCD and Youth Ministry News
  • CCD Wants You!! - Our religious education program is in need of co-catechists and/or aides to help in the following grades; kindergarten and grades 1, 3 and 5. Volunteers must be able to attend a short child protection class and pass a background check. Please call Jackie at 330-719-7115 for more information.
  • CCD & Youth Ministry begins on Sunday, September 11, at 10:00 am.
  • CCD Staff Meeting - All CCD volunteers are asked to attend our annual staff meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 7:00 pm in the hall.
  • CCD and Youth Ministry Registration - Any student wishing to attend CCD (preschool to grade 8) or Youth Ministry (grades 9 to 12) and is not currently attending must fill out a pink registration form found in the church vestibule. Place the registration form in the collection basket, drop it off at the rectory, or mail it to the church. Please include a copy of the student's baptismal certificate.

Hiram College Students
We welcome the students of Hiram College who may be joining us at Mass this weekend. May the academic year before you be filled with much wisdom and grace. On Sunday, Sept. 18, we will have coffee and donuts after the 11:15 Sunday Mass to officially welcome the men and women of Hiram College.

Adults and children are invited to the Parish Social Life Committee on Wed., Aug. 24 at 7:00 pm in the hall. We will discuss our fun events for the fall, and welcome any new ideas! Chicken Dinner/Car Show
Saints Edward and Lucy Parish will be hosting a chicken dinner/car show on Sunday, August 21, from 11:00 am. to 6:00 pm at St. Edward Church,16150 Center Street, Parkman, OH.

Joint Parish Picnic
Plan now to attend our annual parish picnic to be held on Sunday, September 11, at 1:00 pm at St. Michael Church. Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be provided. Parishioners are asked to please bring a covered dish or dessert to share. There will be fun and games for children and adults.

Choir News
Adult choir will be reassembling after the summer break. Any adult interested in joining the choir, please call Tess at 330-325-2448. We could use some new voices since we are losing a couple as students head to college. Please come and join our musical family for our first rehearsal on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 7:00 pm in the church.

Annual Family Barbecue and Boutique
The Sisters of Notre Dame invite you to the Annual Barbecue/ Boutique on either Sunday, Sept. 18 or Sept. 25, from noon until 5:00 pm. Enjoy a barbecued chicken or ribs dinner! Select sisters' handmade items in the Boutique. Tickets are available at the door for $12.00/chicken and $15.00/ribs. Held at Notre Dame Educational Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon, Ohio.

Wedding Anniversary Celebration
The Office of Marriage and Family Life of the Diocese of Youngstown is sponsoring its second Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Celebration for the year 2016 on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 2:00 pm at St. John the Baptist Church, Canton. Diocesan couples who are observing their 25th, 40th, 50th, and over, wedding anniversaries in 2016 will be honored at this celebration. Contact the parish office if interested in attending.

Knights of Columbus News & Activities

K of C Council 11801 Fundraiser
The St. Ambrose Knights of Columbus is hosting a charity fundraiser through Cal's restaurant in Garrettsville that benefits the K of C/Charles Abraham Scholarship fund and Garrettsville-Nelson Food Shelf. Download and print a copy of the Cal's flyer, dine at Cal's and present the flyer on the listed dates. Flyers are also available in the church vestibule.

Steak Fry!
The St. Ambrose Knights of Columbus Council is hosting their annual Steak Fry on Saturday, August 20, right after 5:00 pm. Mass in the church hall. Cost is $15/person or $25/couple and we accept cash, checks or credit/debit cards. Reservations will be taken after all the Masses. Also, please bring a non-perishable item for the food shelf.

Labels for Education
This school year, the Knights of Columbus will again partner with James A. Garfield Local Schools to collect Labels for Education and Box Tops for Education. Please drop your Labels and Box Tops in the white "bucket" in the Church vestibule. Thank you.

K of C Meeting Times

Food Cupboard
The Windham Knights of Columbus has started an ongoing food drive through St. Michael’s Church. Canned vegetables, canned soup, cereal and peanut butter are the most needed items. However, any non-perishable items are fine. Please check the expiration date before donating. We would like to thank you for your generosity in advance.
