Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults The R.C.I.A. is a formation process for adults (18 years of age and older) who wish to become Catholic. Classes are held in the rectory or church hall for learning, faith sharing and fellowship. The culmination of the R.C.I.A. is at the Easter Vigil at which time we will celebrate the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. If you or someone you know may be interested in becoming Catholic and being involved in the R.C.I.A. classes, please call Fr. Leo at 330-527-4105.
R.C.I.A. will NOT meet Wednesday, Dec. 11. The session is rescheduled for Sunday, Dec. 15 at 5:00 pm in the hall.
Advent Communal Penance Services
The Portage County Deanery will be holding two Advent Communal Penance Services: • St. Patrick (Kent) on Wednesday, Dec. 11 • St. Ambrose (Garrettsville) on Tuesday, Dec. 17
Each service will begin at 7:00 pm. Priests from all ten parishes of the county will be present to celebrate the sacrament. All parishioners are encouraged to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation as part of their preparation for the Solemnity of Christmas.
Bible Study Bible Study will be held in the rectory this Monday, Dec. 9, at 7:00 pm. All are welcome!
CD and Youth Ministry News • CCD and Youth Ministry - No classes Dec. 1. Classes resume Sunday, Dec. 8.
• Youth Ministry ... will meet in the church parking lot Sunday, Dec. 8, at 9:30 am to go to Hattie Larlham.
• “Friends of Melana” - The Social Action Committee and our CCD program are again sponsoring a collection of new, small stuffed animals to be distributed to nearby children’s hospitals this Christmas. Animals can be brought to CCD from Nov. 3 through Dec. 8 or placed under the “Giving Tree” in the church vestibule from Nov. 17 through Dec. 8.
• Pennies from Heaven - We will be collecting “pennies” to purchase gift baskets for our St. Ambrose homebound parishioners through Dec. 15. We are requesting that each child donate one dollar. This will total over $100.00 and we can purchase some very nice gifts. Please be generous.
Tree The Giving Tree is in the vestibule. When taking a tag from the tree, please write your name and the number of the tag chosen (on the form on the counter) to help us keep track of the gift tags. Please return the unwrapped gift with the tag attached no later than Sunday, Dec. 8.
Breakfast with Santa at St. Ambrose The Knights of Columbus are once again hosting a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 10:00 am at the church hall. Please bring a non-perishable item for the food shelf.
St. Ambrose Christmas Concert The annual St. Ambrose Christmas Concert will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 6:00 pm. Mark your calendars! All members of the vocal choirs will have a Christmas Concert rehearsal Saturday, Dec. 7, at 10:00 am in the church.
Adult Volunteers Needed ... ...to perform “The Miracles of Jesus Christ.” Acted out by shadows and cast against a white screen (as the “shadow stations” were last year). Five practice sessions will be held following the 11:15 am Mass on Sunday (approximately 1-1/2 hours each). Advent Retreat for Men & Women Directed by Abbot Clement Zeleznik, OSB, Resident Chaplin of Loyola Retreat House, this retreat will focus on the Advent Sunday Mass Readings as we prepare ourselves for the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ. As joyful Christians, we prepare in great anticipation for the celebration of His Birth. Retreat begins Friday, Dec. 13, at 5:30 pm and concludes Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6:30 pm. Cost: $90.00 per person; includes overnight accommodations and four meals. A $50.00 deposit is required with registration. The balance is due on arrival. Boy Scouts of America Troop 62 (4062) of the Boy Scouts of America meets in the St. Ambrose church hall on Thursday evenings at 7 pm. The troop is located in Garrettsville Ohio and covers Garrettsville, Windham and Hiram.
Coats for Kids Drop off new or used coats at the Deluxe Cleaners in Garrettsville. The coats will be cleaned and given to the “People Tree” and they will then be distributed to the less fortunate. Please help keep a child warm during winter.
